Swimming pools in the sky
Fancy a refreshing swim without leaving the city? Why not visit the local sports complex in Lago, Casa de Campo, which is easy to access by metro. However, there are other more sophisticated options that you can do this summer in Madrid. One of them is diving into a pool with the city at your feet at Gymage Social Fitness, an exclusive gym located in the heart of Madrid (Corredera Baja de San Pablo, 2), just a minute away from Gran Vía and Callao.
It’s definitely a place to see and be seen, with a restaurant and a terrace called the Gymage Terrace where you can enjoy a mojito or a gin and tonic at sunset, an experience to savour. Swimming in its pool is another great experience which, for the first time, will be open to the general public this summer (not just members). During weekdays, access to the pool costs 12 euros for the whole day or 9 euros for 4 hours. On weekends, an all-day ticket (there are no reduced options) costs 17 euros and it includes a beer or a soft drink.
If you like the idea of swimming up in the sky you can go to O2 Centro Wellness Manuel Becerra, which has a state-of-the-art gym with modern facilities, heated indoor swimming pools and an outdoor pool with a solarium. Enjoy the 25-yard lanes to cool down and swim in or the spa circuits that are also available which include four hot springs, hydromassage tub, sauna, steam bath and other relaxation services.
And lastly, an option that whilst not outdoors it is located at a considerable height: the swimming pool of the new Colegio de Arquitectos, also known as Escuelas de San Antón. Its large glass windows overlooking the Chueca district are one of its many charms. The centre’s facilities include a smaller pool, a dry sauna and a fitness room. After exercising, you can enjoy a well-deserved drink in the excellent bar-restaurant located in the same building called Bosco de Lobos.
